With the issue of Syrian refugees a main topic in the news today, 31 states are holding strong to their opposition of letting them into the United States. Some leaders say they either oppose taking in any Syrian refugees being relocated as part of a national program or are asked that they be particularly scrutinized as potential security threats. Journalism students excel at state contest

Del Mar College journalism students took home 23 awards including first place in three categories at the recent Texas Community College Journalism Association conference in Austin. Former Foghorn photographer Tera Elwell placed first in newspaper sports action photo, former Foghorn Managing Editor Amber Quaid placed first in magazine photography and former Foghorn cartoonist Kai Hernandez placed first in magazine layout/design. Vagueness of DMC alerts eroded trust, caused confusion

        On Oct. 1 at approximately 1:09 p.m., students received text alerts, emails and phone calls regarding a threat that was made against a female student and the East Campus. As the alert didn’t seem too urgent, campus activities and classes were to continue as scheduled. As a potential, new or current student at Del Mar College, choosing a major and a degree plan can be a daunting challenge. Putting the culture back into agriculture, the Klepacs, a Robstown family, hope to start a new tradition with their Rockin’ K Corn Maze and outdoor fun this fall. Located just outside of Robstown, the family friendly event features a 6-acre corn maze, games for kids and more. Ride in Theater presents screening of “Short Circuit”

Johnny 5 comes back to life this month at the Corpus Christi Ride-In Theater’s screening of “Short Circuit.” The classic 1986 film, which features actors Steve Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy, will screen at the Watergardens on Sept. 12 to close out the Port of Corpus Christi’s Summer Movie Series partnership with Ride-In. The film follows Number 5, a military robot who, after being experimented on, experiences an unexpected transformation when struck by lightning.
