DMC Students showcase skills at annual Jazz Festival

Del Mar College Jazz Band member Garrett Williams has fun on his guitar solo as he performs at the Texas Jazz Band Festival.

The 55th annual Texas Jazz Festival invited jazz lovers to Heritage Park in downtown Corpus Christi the weekend of Oct. 16.

The Del Mar College Jazz Band kicked off the event at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16 showing the crowd that Del Mar still has that “jazzy spunk” that started the event 55 years ago. Corpus

Christi’s Latin Talk jazz band took center stage that week- end along with other local and visiting jazz bands.

The Texas Jazz Festival was started in 1959 at Del Mar Col- lege by former DMC profes- sor Al “Beto” Garcia. About 150 people came to the student union to watch his band play that year.

Elevate361 now officially open

City of Corpus Christi officials celebrated the opening of a new West Side community center for a program aimed at empowering young people through mentorship, education resources, and career development opportunities. Pickle Fest comes to Corpus

Local Nueces Brewing and Barbecuing Company hosted their inaugural festival dedicated solely to pickles on Mar. 23. Though food festivals centering pickles have been common in major cities, Corpus Christi has never had one. Many local vendors joined together to help produce the first one aptly titled ‘Nueces County Pickle Fest.’ The celebration ran from 11:30A.M. to 6P.M. “We have a vision of growing it city-wide, little bit bigger.
