After opening several other locations in Texas, the Grub Burger Bar has finally made its way to Corpus Christi. Is this place worth visiting, and does it deserve to have its place here in South Texas? Two Foghorn reviewers set out to answer those questions and sink their teeth into burgers.

After hearing that the Grub Burger Bar was coming to Corpus Christi right across from La Palmera mall it immediately piqued my curiosity. After my friend Jay and I decided to review the grand opening, we knew we had to be there before 11 a.m., as it was likely to be packed. The first 100 customers received a VIP cup for free refills for life and a free burger celebrating the grand opening.

We managed to get seated around noon but by that time they already reached their 100 customers so we didn’t get the freebies. I wasn’t going to let this get in the way of enjoying some possibly great food. We sat at the bar and ordered water. The bartenders were friendly and checked often to see if we needed refills. I ordered the Mac n Cheeseburger that had macaroni and cheese on it with bacon bits.

The burger arrived in good time and I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it. When I bit into it, the flavors were front and center as the seasoning on the burger patty tasted like one on a good steak. The macaroni cheese sauce tasted fresh and not like the powdered cheese. The skinny fries also tasted really good and were nicely seasoned — perfect for dipping into a shake.

I was able to try a few shakes as they gave waiting customers free samples of their handspun shakes. The cookies and cream, salted caramel and Nutella flavored shakes all tasted good, making me want to try one the next time I come. In the end the Grub Burger Bar is a welcome addition to Corpus Christi and is worth checking out.

Aug. 23 was the grand opening of Grub Burger Bar, a well-known restaurant from different parts of Texas and other states, too. I actually was able to make it with my fellow reporter Jonathan Garcia and we waited in line to get our hands on some delicious food. It was a wait, but the staff was giving out waters and milkshake samples, which was real nice of them. The hostess seated us at the bar.

I took in the scrumptious flavor of the Bacon Lover #9 with great seasoned fries. Besides the great food, the atmosphere of the restaurant was vibrant and calm. The waiters and waitresses were great, along with the bartenders. As we waited in line many who were ahead of us had nothing but positive feedback from the service and food and left feeling full, as did I.

The variety is good along with soups snacks and other foods, drinks and shakes as well, so to the many who visit the mall or visit Corpus Christi I highly recommend this restaurant to y’all.
