More than 600 expected to graduate

More than 600 students have applied for fall semester graduation, according to Kim Champion of the Del Mar College Registrar’s office. Of the 614 to apply, more than 400 have committed to walking the stage.

Fall commencement ceremonies will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at the American Bank Center. More than 750 degrees are expected to be awarded, Champion said.

Students participating in the ceremony may purchase their cap and gown, as well as their graduation announcements, at the Del Mar College bookstore in the Harvin Center.

The day of graduation students will meet in Exhibit Hall B of the American Bank Center, located at 1901 Shoreline Blvd. The hall is in between the Selena Auditorium and the arena. Graduates need to arrive by 5:45 p.m.

There will be a live stream of the ceremony at www.delmar.edu/webcasts, and the feed will begin 15 minutes before the ceremony.

Prohibited Items

For the safety of everyone certain items will be prohibited from being brought into the building.

These items include:

  • Hoverboards
  • Bottles, cans, coolers, food, drinks, or illegal substances
  • Weapons, including chains and studded bracelets
  • Video equipment, professional cameras, tripods and recording devices
  • Laser pointers, aerosol cans, noise makers, fireworks
  • Umbrellas
  • Helium balloons
  • Smoking e-cigarettes
  • Selfie sticks
  • Pets or non-service animals
  • Purses or bags larger than a clutch size
  • Briefcases, backkpacks, luggage – clear plastic bags not to exceed 12 by 6 by 12 inches will be allowed, as well as a one gallon zip close plastic bag
