The Viking Vibes, created by Mauricio “Porfi” Cantu, president of the club, made its debut in spring 2019.
The club was started to bring out the hidden talents from Del Mar students and also an oppurtunity to meet new people and become a family that sticks together.
“We focus on film, art and music bringing the fine arts together as one, as a family. We want to have all creatives. Artists, photograhers, filmmakers, singers, musicians, producers, etc., to all join and collaborate, connect and create all forms of art. We want to give a platform to all these artists and to be able to expose their art here at the school but as well as give them opening doors to reality,” Cantu said.
The club volunteered to help DJ for Valdars birthday and design club T-shirts for Del Mar College Clean Up hosted by the Green Team. The club has also participated in competitions, submitting work from members of the club.
This semester, the club will be participating in the BEA, the Broadcast Education Association, a national club membership competition. “We will be submitting short film narravtive, film and music videos,” Cantu said.
The club is looking forward to participating in the Fall Festival, with big plans of making that a fun and happy enviroment. They also plan on volunteering more and helping others in the community.
“Our biggest plan that we are striving for is to create an environment at the end of the semester for students to escape their day-to-day routines, to get away from disstress, as well as success at the end of the semster to come experience what the Viking Vibes is about,” Cantu said.
