Student have until Sept. 30 to apply
The Student Government Association introduced new officers and discussed what is to come for the fall semester during their first virtual meeting.
Sofia Jimenez, presidents of the 2020-21 SGA, has been a member for two years.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be your student representative this year,” Jimenez said. “My job is to be the liaison between the students and the administrative office.”
Jimenez encourages all students to learn about all the resources Del Mar has and to share them with other students.
Each officer introduced an on-campus resource they believe is beneficial to fellow students. Disability Services, Veteran Services and the Student Success Center were some of the resources the SGA officers encouraged their fellow Vikings to use.
The SGA has open officer positions and is looking for a treasurer, parliamentarian and magistrate. Those who are interested can email SGA your name, student ID number and the position you’re interested in. They will then send you an election packet that must filled out before midnight on Sept. 30.
The group also introduced their gift card giveaways and announced their first winner. To enter to win you must like and share their Facebook post as well as attend the meetings or watch the uploaded recordings.
“Winners must be current, active Del Mar students,” Jimenez said. “To claim your prize, listen for your name during the meetings and we will email you.”
The group also announced that Student Leadership and Campus Life now has a Canvas page to keep students updated with all upcoming events and student resources.
“We know that it is a new normal and we are all adjusting well,” said Beverly Cage, director of Student Leadership and Campus Life. “If there is anything we can do to support you in your academic success, as well as getting you engaged on campus, please reach out to us on Canvas or contact our office.”
The SGA encourages students to follow their new Facebook page, DMC SGA, to stay up to date with all events and giveaways.
The next SGA meeting is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Oct. 7. Students will receive an invite link in their emails.
