Intramurals holding virtual events

Students have several ways to stay active

The fall semester is underway, and intramurals have also made a return.

There are several virtual fitness sessions students can join. Activities include Zumba, yoga and the 100 Mile and Steps Challenge. There will be links posted for each activity at https://www.delmar.edu/offices/kinesiology/intramurals.html

The livestream for Zumba, which began Sept. 12, is led by Coach Perla Soliz. There will be new yoga videos posted every Friday, which will be led by Kate Burrill. Each session is free for any students interested, and all that’s required is to make an account.

There are steps for creating an account under Del Mar’s “Kinesiology” tab on their website.

The 100 Miles and Steps Challenges began Sept. 7, but the challenges run until Nov. 15. For these challenges, students track the distance they’ve traveled on foot.

Other events this semester include video game challenges, a pushup contest and even a pumpkin carving competition.

Before this semester, intramurals had not held any events since March. COVID-19 put a stop to any of the remaining activities in the spring semester. The hope is that intramurals will return to the kinesiology building in spring 2021. For now, students have an opportunity to stay active and participate in fitness activities wherever they may be.

“Right now, my goal for the program is to ensure our participants’ safety and offer programs and activities that give participants an outlet for competition, fitness and fun,” said Intramural Director Kristy Urbick.

For more information on how to participate in intramurals, visit https://www.delmar.edu/offices/kinesiology/intramurals.html or contact Urbick at kurbick2@delmar.edu.

  1. Great idea to keep all types of student interacted on campus. Any competitive activity within the student body sounds like fun! Thank you for the info and dates!
