‘We are taking all the necessary precautions,’ manager says
After being closed for nearly a year because of COVID-19, Campus Dining has reopened — with a limited menu and a side of social distancing.
“We are taking all the necessary precautions to maintain a clean and healthy environment,” said Eliza Olvera, food service manager. “We have limited the amount of occupancy in the ordering area.”
Other safety measures include spraying down the counters and machines during the day and requiring staff and guests to wear masks. Hand sanitizer is available at the Campus Dining entrance.
Due to low guest count, they will not be offering a full range of food items. Only the deli corner, the grill and pizza area will be open this semester. Only whole pizza will be available per order.
Some food options will be rotated weekly and can be found on the VIKINGGO app
Olvera said each semester is different when it comes to the most popular food.
“This spring I believe it’s going to be our deli corner,” she said. “We have fresh vegetables daily and everything is made to order.”
The dining area will be closed, and all food is made to-go.
Olvera said they hope to open the dining area when safety measures can be monitored and maintained.
“We have gone from feeding 300-400 students and staff a day to maybe 25,” Olvera said. “It’s really sad and we miss everyone. We love being back and I feel I speak for the rest of my staff when I say this, but it’s definitely not the same.”
Campus Dining hours for East and West campus are 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Fridays.
