Volleyball league practice to be held on Oct. 18, League to start this Thursday

Del Mar is hosting a 6v6 volleyball league at the Heritage Campus starting this week.

Roy Moya, intramural interim director, said there will be a league practice from 5:15-7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Heritage Campus Gym.

“This will be to allow all the competitors to get acquainted with the team they’ve been assigned and so that the schedule can be properly set,” Moya said. He also stated that they will do their best to accommodate students wanting to join up until game time when league play begins on Oct. 20.

Each team will consist of either three men and three women, or an all-women’s team. Along with the teams put together by Del Mar students and the volleyball free agency list, this league will extend outside of intramurals with some high schools and surrounding colleges being invited to compete.

Each match will be a best two out of three sets, with the first team to 15 winning the current set. Each team will play at least once every Tuesday and Thursday until the league championship. At the end of the league, the winning team will receive a champion’s hoodie and shirt, while the second-place team will receive only the shirts.

To compete in a game, teams must have a minimum of five players present. Therefore, if multiple members can’t make it on a certain day or a team fails to meet this requirement by its scheduled gametime then the team will forfeit that game. Teams will not be disqualified from the league if they must forfeit one of the games.

Anyone interested in playing can fill out a free agency sheet at the Heritage Campus Gym in Room 108. For more information, contact Moya at 361-698-1337 or rmoya@delmar.edu.
