The Drama Department at Del Mar College is a great channel for many students like Lee Alvarado, a drama major and costume assistant to Shara Haghjoo-Moghadam, assistant professor of drama. “Being around a group of people who enjoy what they do, every single day is something not everyone gets to experience,” Alvarado said. High school students traveled from across Texas to compete in several welding events at the Skills-USA State competition April 1 at Windward Campus. According to Assistant Welding Professor Jose Cortez, the event is a great opportunity for Del Mar to spark interest in high school students by allowing them to see and use the college’s facilities. “Hosting the state event lets schools all over Texas know what Del Mar is doing,” Cortez said. “If they get exposed to this kind of welding and we talk to them we sometimes do get students who register at our program.” Author Nichaela Shaheen
Thomas E. Patterson, Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, will discuss the U.S. Constitution and the impact it continues to have on our country and government during a Constitution Day 2025 lecture on Del Mar’s Heritage Campus. Serving as the structure of the United States, the Constitution outlines the principles of the federal government, and the rights reserved for citizens, which are still standing today.
