Suicide Prevention Symposium offers support, resources
Del Mar will host its eight annual Suicide Prevention Symposium beginning tonight in the Harvin Center on Heritage Campus. Special guest speaker Gabe Alvarado will address the crowd during the first part of the event at 6 p.m. in the Retama Room. Alvarado, who lost his left arm and was burned over 60% of his body in an oil refinery explosion, will share the story about how he realized life was worth living again. Although the road to recovery was long, Alvarado has now created his own foundation in hopes of helping others who are dealing with thoughts of suicide.…
Collegiate students talk politics
Collegiate High School’s Junior Politicians Club held their first multi-party public forum in the Retama Room in the Harvin Center on Oct. 22. Three members of the Democratic, Republican and Green parties gave a basic understanding of each ideology to help the public understand what each party is about. Audience members were able to interact with the party members and give their opinions on the issues that were discussed in the forum. Events happening around campus Feb. 24-27
Pizza with the president Mark Escamilla, DMC president, will be meeting with students for any questions they might have about their experience or concerns at DMC. The past and future of the college will be discussed over pizza. Pizza will be served at 12:30- 2 p.m. on Feb. 24 room 122 in the St. Clair building on the East Campus. Viking book club The Daughters of Mars by Thomas Keneally will discussed at this months meeting. Club meetings are open to the public.
