Intramurals hosted the one-day tournament on Sept. 19 in the gymnasium. Three table tennis stations allowed the five competitors to face off simultaneously. The first couple of matches were rather uneventful, but when competitors Colby Farr and Jonathan Garcia faced off, the two friends turned serious. Corpus Christi’s hockey team, the IceRays, opened their season with two home games against the El Paso Rhinos. The teams met at the American Bank Center for the season-starting bout on Sept. 23 and 24. The first game started out shaky, with Rhinos forward Tory Lund scoring a goal by the end of the first period. Luckily, IceRays forwards Pierson Sobush and Mathieu Bourgault responded in kind with a goal apiece in the second period before the Rhinos tied it back up. Dodgeball tourney action intense as Refugio Kats win By Carlos E. Gonzalez / Reporter As the great Patches O’Houlihan once said, “Remember to pick the bigger, stronger kids for your team; that way you can all gang up on the weaker ones.” It seems everyone who competed at the dodgeball tournament on Jan. 29 had the same idea. Just four teams signed up, but that doesn’t mean the tournament was over in a flash. Each team consisted of two players — one was the muscle and the other the speed.
