Although it had been a couple years since playing in a competitive basketball game, Tevin Battle took the court and quickly regained his stellar playing style while helping Team Robert win the DMC intramural championship basketball game Nov. 16. “I had forgot just how fun playing ball with friends can be,” Battle said of his high school days. “When you have teammates that can match your intensity it takes the pressure off and makes playing as a team so much fun.” Battle scored 10 points in the championship game, which capped an eight-team, double-elimination tournament. Students and staff took a dose of healthy competition to the Del Mar College gym basketball court in an epic inaugural “March Madness Showdown.” On March 27 the madness began with the free-throw contest. With sign-up open to players and fans, the competition was fierce. As the competition narrowed down to the top scorers, Andres Garcia walked away the free-throw contest champion. “It took hard work and consistency,” Garcia said of his win. Intramurals hosted a two-day basketball tournament that started April 13. The tournament pitted six teams against one another for the championship spot and bragging rights.
