Del Mar College offers work study and student assistant jobs for students who are looking to earn some money.
Work study offers jobs in many departments from offices and shops to labs.
“We try to give student jobs within their major so they can put on their resume that they have some work experience in their field of study,” said Financial Aid Assistant Stephanie Morin
Morin confirmed that “students must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours, be in good standing with Financial Aid, and have an unmet need which will be determined when their file is viewed. When students apply for FASFA, they can let FASFA know they are interested in work study and Financial Aid will be notified.”
There is no exact deadline to apply for these jobs as long it is within a reasonable time before the semester ends.
The pay rate ranges from $8.50 to $10 and hour as each department pays different based off student duties. The wages are tax-free and is not required to be claimed for the year. Students can work up to 19 hours a week and they can make their own schedule.
Jobs are posted on Hire Viking but an account has to be set up with Career Development. Call Financial Aid at 361-698-1293 if you are interested or have any questions.
Student assistant jobs are also available for Del Mar students. Associate Director of Human Resources Lorie Copus confirmed most student assistant jobs do have a couple of minimum requirements.
These involve being a current Del Mar College student enrolled in a minimum of six hours while employed and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
“It is best to review each job posting for the minimum requirements as there may be some variations by position,” Copus said.
Copus mentioned that if students want to apply for a student assistant job, positions are posted on the DMC job board at https://dmcjobs.delmar.edu/.
Many types of jobs are available. It is best to search the job board for available positions. Pay rates may be found on the job posting and vary depending on the position.
