Staff picks: Rom-Coms

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, there is no better time than now to binge watch romantic comedies.

There is just something about rom-coms that is comforting. Whether you are having a movie night with friends or need to unwind after a long day, you will be guaranteed some giggles and maybe even a good cry. Consider this a reminder to re-watch some of your favorites or take a recommendation from our staff picks below.

27 DRESSES“Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.” … 27 times. While it is hard to believe that anyone in adulthood has 27 close friends, it still makes for a good movie.  I will also never miss an opportunity to see James Marsden on my screen. Fun fact: He is my all-time favorite actor!

‘HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS’ – I consider this movie to be a classic. Kate Hudson plays Andie Anderson, whose editor wants a story on how to lose a guy in 10 days so she puts the theory to the test but her love interest has a plan of his own.

‘THE WRONG MISSY’ – No matter how many times I watch this movie, it will never not make me laugh. The female main character is quirky and hilarious which makes it more of a comedy than a romance, but I’m not complaining. This movie is not your typical rom-com, which makes me love it so much more.

‘SOMEONE GREAT’ – It is a perfect movie to watch when you’ve just broken up with someone. It reminds me of being excited for another try for the future.

‘CRUSH’ – While it doesn’t fall into the typical rom-com story line, it is relatable.

‘PRINCESS BRIDE’ – It’s not only a classic but timeless. It is a typical romantic story with a twist of silliness which goes perfect with a glass of red wine.

‘CRAZY STUPID LOVE’ – I love the movie because the situations that the plot creates and how the characters interact with one another. The acting is great and the plot lines all come together and really ties the whole movie together.

‘THE PROPOSAL’ – I think I mostly like this movie because of the lead actors, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. The charisma and comedic timing between them makes every single scene memorable and the ensemble cast helps elevate the movie above the standard of a typical rom-com.

‘HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS’ – It’s a movie about having to choose between love or your career and realizing that the two can actually coincide if it is meant to be. It also features one of my favorite actors, Matthew McConaughey. Plus, it also features the iconic yellow dress.

‘FAILURE TO LAUNCH’ – It’s a classic love story with a twist. This movie shows that love can be found in the most unexpected of places.

‘10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU’ – This is probably my favorite romance movie because it has a good plot but also some interesting turns.

‘50 FIRST DATES’ – Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are one of my favorite acting duos. The story is also really heartwarming since he is doing everything he can to be a part of her life.
