Indoor football returns to Corpus Christi

The Coastal Bend will be home to a new indoor football team, the Corpus Christi Tritons. The community can look forward to kicking off the 2024 season in March at the American Bank Center. Kevin Cecil is not only the owner of the Corpus Christi Tritons, but also a law enforcement officer for the city of New Braunfels who has a passion for arena football. Harlem Globetrotters come to Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi hosted the Harlem Globetrotters on February 5, 2024, at the American Bank Center, as one of the many stops on their world tour. Fans got to experience a unique game of basketball and even got to participate alongside the Globetrotters. The Harlem Globetrotters took the court against their lifelong rivals, the hapless Washington Generals. Backyard Games expands for spring

Intramurals has begun for the 2024 spring semester. In case you missed the registration date for the 150 Mile Bike Challenge, 100 Mile Walk/Run Challenge, or 40K Swim Challenge, there are plenty of upcoming virtual and in-person events to choose from. The Welding Applied Technology Program is encouraging high school students, college students and welding professionals to sign up to compete in the second annual Día De Los Muertos Welding Competition. Del Mar College’s Hospitality & Culinary Institute served a Japanese-inspired buffet that was prepared by students in the food production and services class at a recent luncheon. Joseph Lemus, student manager, put together the menu for the Sept. 21 luncheon and ran the operations for the Teaching Restaurant, located at Oso Creek. The luncheon commences the third year of Coastal Bend Restaurant Week, which will run Sept. 22 through Oct. 1. Food bank rebrands

Del Mar hopes to help even more students with a planned expansion and rebranding of the Viking Food Pantry. The pantry, which opened in 2019 on Heritage Campus, soon will have locations at the Windward and Oso Creek campuses as well, according to Lisa Leal-Garcia, coordinator of Student Engagement and Retention. It will also be renamed Valdar’s Market. Del Mar partners with the Coastal Bend Food Bank to stock the pantry.
