County Judge honors Grammy-award winning band

Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales joined El Dusty, the Grammy nominated DJ and producer, along with the Grammy award-winning band The Mavericks for a special announcement on Feb. 5. Canales declared the day “The Mavericks Day” at the event, held at the downtown gallery PRODUCE. Canales recognized the band for their long history and collaboration with El Dusty, a Corpus Christi native. Canales envisions bringing more art and music culture to Corpus Christi. Beach Fest shutdown raises questions

Amanda Jackson / Staff writer   Beach Fest was a music festival scheduled March 15-17 at Cole Park and McGee beach but was abruptly shut down Sat March 16 in the afternoon at Cole Park. “Beach Fest was supposed to be a community event to help charities,” said Beth Guarneri, the chair and event supervisor of Beach Fest and Director of the foundation, “it was suppose to be a big music event put on for the city to help not only my charity [The Elizabeth Guarneri Foundation] but other non-profits as well.” Author Webmaster

Early voting begins Feb. 20; Election Day set for March 6 As voting season approaches, some Del Mar College students can’t wait for their voice to be heard in this year’s midterm elections.
