Corpus Christi a snooze-fest according to national study

A recent study by FinanceBuzz evaluated 75 of the nation’s largest cities to find the most boring spot. Corpus Christi landed at the number three spot.

FinanceBuzz took into account multiple data points to rank the cities on an “excitement” scale from 0-100. They considered the growing population of younger people compared to older generations, along with culture, diversity and entertainment.

Ranking at number one was Jacksonville, Florida with an overall excitement score of 14.3/100. Both Texas and Florida earned two spots each in the top 10: Tallahassee and Jacksonville in Florida and Corpus Christi and San Antonio in Texas.

In response to the ranking, nursing major Alyssa Padia said “It’s not like people think ‘Let me go to Corpus for vacation or my birthday’ because why would you?”

Local resident Christy Moore said, “I’m not surprised.”

While some agree with its ranking, others believe it’s too harsh.

“We have the Art Walk, and the beach, and lots of shopping options,” said radio and TV major Benjamin Tobon.

“I feel like we have too much to do here already,” said digital media major Ryan Munoz.

Radio and TV major John Benes thought there should be more options. “I think Corpus should have more venue options for live music … and more community involvement when it comes to the arts,” he said.

With new businesses entering Corpus Christi and the positive regard residents have for the ArtWalk, locals hope to see a change in this ranking soon.

“If we want to see any change, we need to start with asking the people directly,” said resident Courtney Teeter. “The city of Corpus should send out surveys on what the people would like to see come to Corpus or maybe even change some things.”
