Deadline for Freedom to Dream 2.0 approaching

Del Mar College is offering students another chance at free or reduced tuition with the Freedom to Dream 2.0 Tuition Waiver program, but time is running out. The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 30.

The program is designed to help students within Del Mar College’s taxing district attend college with less of a financial burden. Eligible, in-district residents will receive reduced or no tuition expenses.

The college aims to eliminate financial obstacles students may have that prevent them from pursuing higher education. The program already has a high success rate, helping more than 1,700 students in the initial launch of the program.

The Freedom to Dream 2.0 waiver begins in the fall 2026 semester. The program will have a more refined approach than the inaugural program, determining where a student will start based on their college readiness. This allows students to either enroll directly into a degree program, take college preparation courses, or gain experience through workforce training. There will also be professional success coaches who will offer guidance to the students.

An informational meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. April 15 at the Coleman Center on the Windward Campus, 4104 Old Brownsville Road.

The meeting will provide details about eligibility requirements, how to apply, and services available to students.

Applications for the Freedom to Dream 2.0 program are currently open, and the deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on April 30. Classes for the fall 2026 semester at all Del Mar College campuses begin on Aug. 24.
