Del Mar students took to the court and field to compete in the free-throw, hotshots and soccer intramural tournaments. Out of the four teams competing in the soccer tournament, two rose above the rest. In the final showdown the Grass Kickers went head to head with Manchester Hair United. After an intense game the teams were tied at 1-1. “We had to go into a sudden death overtime, and the first team to score won,” Intramurals Director Kristy Urbick said. Unfortunately there was not a huge turnout this semester as compared with the fall semester, when there was over eight teams playing competitively. This time around only four showed up to play, which led to several games of the same four teams over two weeks — two Del Mar teams, two from Collegiate High School. Del Mar’s Intramural Sports hosted the first 1 on 1 basketball tournament of the spring semester on Wednesday, March 19in the Heritage Campus gym. Games ran for nine minutes or until one player reached 11 points, with shots being tallied as one and two points rather than two and three.
