Eleven student photographers showcased their artwork at “Completely Exposed,” a digital photography exhibition appreciating wildlife, macro flower photography, local architecture, intriguing portraits, and more at the Center for Economic Development on Nov. 20. Free to the public, the exhibition buzzed with a large crowd of attendees and granted the students an opportunity to discuss their work with others passionate about photography.
Now framed on the center’s walls for the public to view and purchase, 77 photographs were accumulated throughout the Fall 2025 semester by students of the Del Mar College’s Continuing Education Digital Photography class under the instruction of Jeff Janko, a professor of photography for over 26 years.
Along with studying new techniques and versatility throughout the course, students learned “how to promote their photography, set up an exhibit, create a flyer, advertise…then the final month of the class is the reception and exhibition,” said Janko.
“It’s a great experience for beginners since they have the chance to get exposure for their work.”
The exhibition also showcased experienced photographers like Alison Marks, Del Mar counselor and Digital Photography student, who mentioned this was her fourth time taking the advanced section of the course. In conversation, Marks discussed her passion for macro photography and capturing nature, always learning new perspectives from her professor and classmates.
Featured at the exhibition was the photograph “Blue Tequila” taken by Rosa Lazaro, a theater professor at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Digital Photography student, which was the winner of abstract/artistic photography in the February 2024 issue of The Bend, a Coastal Bend-based magazine.
“Viewing the world differently is truly a thrill,” said Lazaro to the Utah Shakespeare Festival where she had an exhibition of her abstract photography on Sept. 20, 2024. “I want nothing more than to share that with others.”
“Completely Exposed” will be available for viewing through Dec. 17 at the center’s lobby from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. Matted and framed prints in dimensions 8×10 and 11×14 are available for purchase throughout the exhibition’s duration.
