Thursday evening began with thousands of delegates arriving in Corpus Christi for the Texas Democratic Convention, giving a boost not only to the local economy but to the overall morale of the convention via concerts and shared values.
Many arrived from all over Texas to the Hilliard Center, a known Republican stronghold, to find a common ground with like-minded individuals who wish to turn the state blue.
Speaking as well about the candidates they wish to represent their needs for the upcoming November elections. The events and activities held to help that goal along, such as mariachis and traditional Mexican dancers and the Donor Appreciation Reception at the Art Museum.
The main attractions of the day being though, a free welcome concert for convention participants held by musical acts Lucky Joe, DJ El Dusty, with a special performance by Bobby Pulido.
As well as the “Drag Out The Vote” fundraiser event with many Texan drag performers showing out hosted by the Texas Stonewall Democrats, where many top Democrats spoke, such as chairman of the Texas Democrats, Kendall Scudder in support of the LGBTQ+ cause.
The first day just being the start of the 3-day convention, stated by organizers as “the largest gathering of Democrats this year,” with expected appearances from popular names such as Bernie Sanders and new-comer James Talarico.

The sequel for day 2 of the Texas Democratic Convention went underway, with pranks from Republican opposition to appearances from high profile Democrats, such as U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico.
The Friday morning began with a food truck paid for by Governor Greg Abbot circling outside the Hillard Center in Corpus Christi, branded as “Talaricos Tacos”, to give out menu items with pointed names such as the Veggie Talarico, Open Border Brisket and Democrat Promises : a served empty tortilla.
The hijinks did not end there, with a Texas Longhorn being paraded around convention grounds with “DON’T BUY THE BULL” draped upon its back and “RadicalTexas.com” near a trashcan labeled “FULL OF BULL”.
For delegates and attendees however, their morning started with training sessions for the delegates on how to properly network, organization methods, and ways to properly handle digital/social media as Democratic influencers.
Followed by meetings held by numerous caucuses and congressional district committees, with an early visit at the Black Caucus meeting from Cory Booker and James Talarico to speak directly with their much needed black voters. Then the “Blue Wave Luncheon” taking place with keynote speaker Governor of Illinois JB Pritzker.
Towards the end of the day, a general session took place, filled with many statewide Democratic speakers and important Democratic top ticket names. The keynote speaker of the night being U.S. Senator Cory Booker, who maintained composure as 3 outbursts from individuals who had to be escorted out by security as he continued to speak. As well a surprise visit from Dolores Huerta, an American labor leader and activist, who spoke on her wisdom for the future generation in flipping the lone star state blue. The next names being known high-profile Texans : Lieutenant Governor candidate Vikki Goodwin, Governor candidate Gina Hinojosa, and running for U.S. Senate James Talarico. Talarico’s speech standing out amongst the three, as it is opened by a former student of he taught himself to speak of his character.
Towards the end of all their speeches, showing a unified front and speaking how division to conquer is how their opponents plan to win come November, then as an almost physical retort, ending the night by joining hands and raising them to satisfied crowd roars.

The final day of the three-day convention ended with celebratory energy, minor protestation, and remarks from self described Democratic Socialist — Bernie Sanders.
Similar to the previous day’s General Session, but this one more aimed at creating a festive atmosphere for attendees to wait in with live music by DJ, lines of dancing people circling the arena and beach balls flying in the air until the awaited and promised keynote speaker Sanders arrived.
In the meanwhile outside a group of 10-15 protesters of the convention and supporters of the Republican party, gathered outside in opposition to the idea of Texas ever turning blue.
Continuing on through the days convention, the results for elected party officers were announced, the biggest cheers had for Kendall Scudder who won the race for Texas Democrat Chair leading the party in the midterms.
The climax arrived when Bernie Sanders took the stage, speaking in the direction he sees the Democratic party needing to go, towards the working class. Touching on present political points such as banning super PACS, ease of access to healthcare, taxation of the billionaire class, and “stopping the spending of billions on the genocidal Netanyahu government in Israel,”; that line met with the most thunderous applause of the night.
Sanders’ last words in his address being “We win because we believe in solidarity, we believe in a common humanity, and we know that when we stand together as one people, the oligarchs and all of their money will never defeat us.”
