Greetings! Having been a volunteer at various organizations practically my entire life, it feels only natural to start a blog about it. This week, the spotlight is on the Gulf Coast Humane Society. They are the local no-kill animal shelter, but without help, they cannot stay a no-kill shelter. The animals they save are not responsible for their circumstances, but certainly have to pay the price of those circumstances. Can they count on you to help?

The Board of Regents continued poring over Southside Campus plans as they looked at the latest renderings presented by the architecture company Gensler at a workshop on March 8. The new campus, which will be located on the corner of Rodd Field Road and Yorktown Boulevard, will be completed in a three-phase process. State mandates Meningitis shot
Maddie Chalk/ Editor in Chief Recently-passed Senate Bill 1107 will now require all incoming students to any institution of higher education to receive the vaccination against bacterial Meningitis. The bill was originally approved earlier this year to only require students living in on-campus housing to receive the vaccination. However, this amendment – effective January 1 – will now include all incoming freshman and transfer students to any two- or four-year college regardless of their living arrangements. Changes covers all forms of nicotine, takes effect in fall Samantha Douty Managing editor The Del Mar College Board of Regents, in a unanimous decision on May 12, approved a ban on all tobacco products on campus effective in the fall semester. “We are hoping that after the ban is put into place Del Mar will no longer focus on academics, but also encompass the mind, body and soul of our students,” said Del Mar College President Mark Escamilla.
