Valdar’s Warriors battled their way to victory as they defeated the Helm Holders 28-14 in Del Mar College’s first Turkey Bowl since 2015. Held on Friday, Oct. 24 at the newly renovated track and turf field on the Heritage Campus, the flag football event helped commemorate the 90th anniversary of Del Mar College and was filled with free food, music, exciting football, raffle prizes, and a piñata as well as events and awards for everyone who wanted to show up and be involved. Del Mar graduate Green wins silver in Serbia

After countless hours of training and preparation, a week-long journey across the world, and multiple hard-fought battles, Del Mar graduate Edward Green saw everything come to fruition as he won the silver medal in his weight class as well as helped Team USA win silver as a team at the World Championship of Chess Boxing in Serbia Sept. 21-28. Speed and length help two students lead the pack in 1v1 basketball tournament

Students and friends gathered in the Heritage Campus gym to battle it out in the 1v1 basketball tournament starting on Monday, Oct. 6. Games were 5 minutes long or the first to score 11 points with every basket counting as 1 point.  Through the first two days of the tournament, Ryan Izaguirre leads all students with an impressive 5-1 record. Del Mar Turkey Bowl is making a come back 

On Friday, Oct. 24, the Del Mar College Turkey Bowl will return for the first time since 2015. It will take place at 12:30 p.m. on the Heritage Campus Kinesiology Track. Valdar’s Vikings and the Helm Holders will compete in a four-quarter flag football game to determine the winner. Del Mar College to Launch Viking 5K run

Del Mar College’s Intramural Department is gearing up to host its first Viking Fest 5K Run on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Windward Campus. The race will begin at 11 a.m. at the Coleman Center and is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. The Outsiders dominate Team Flight to be crowned 3v3 champions

The Outsiders reigned supreme as champions of the 3v3 basketball tournament after putting on an impressive shooting performance to take down the previously undefeated Team Flight, 15-5.  Comprised of Mark Rosales, Nate Alfaro, Elijah Bernal, Jordan Ramos, Corey Watson and Timothy Hernandez, The Outsiders all had to step up at times when members of their team were unavailable to play.  During the second day of the round-robin tournament on Sept. 15, Rosales and Alfaro were both unable to make the games including two against Team Flight, while both teams were undefeated.  Nathaniel Martinez took advantage of the situation, mixing up…

Conquer the Coast bike ride hosted by United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce held its annual Conquer the Coast bike ride in downtown Corpus Christi. Del Mar College Testing Center employee Teresa Janice, 62, competed in the race. “It was an exhausting and challenging moment for me because I had to maintain my biking endurance for more than 20 miles.   At the beginning, it was so easy, but after 10 miles, I started to feel the tiredness and soreness building up in my system,” Janice said. Intramurals heats up with 3v3 basketball

Del Mar Intramurals hosted the opening round for the 3v3 basketball tournament at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 in the Heritage Campus gym. Teams played 10-minute games with substitutes allowed at any time if you had them.  During one of the first matchups between The Outsiders and The Ballazz there was a heated argument following the game. This caused a disruption in the tournament as some students left the gym, and others had to be added onto new teams. No Fear, No Doubt: Alvarez’s path from injury to Astros Glory begins in Corpus Christi

During the week of Aug 19-24, Astros slugger and outfielder Yordan Alvarez played four games on the Corpus Christi Hooks roster against the Frisco RoughRiders while rehabilitating his fractured hand.             On the Tuesday, Aug. 19 game, Alvarez landed two hits but no runs. He didn’t play on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Hooks won 4-2, and two of those runs were scored by Alvarez, who landed three hits.  On Friday, the Hooks won 12-4, and he scored a run with zero hits. Branch beats Collegiate HS in early college match up

The Branch Academy Chargers earned a 47-36 victory over the Collegiate High Royals in an early college competitive basketball game hosted by Intramural sports on Wednesday, April 2 in the Heritage Campus gymnasium. David Zamarripa and Maximiliano Gonzalez led the way for the Chargers by scoring consistently and playing heavy minutes. The game was four 10-minute quarters with official referees and rules.
