The Branch Academy Chargers earned a 47-36 victory over the Collegiate High Royals in an early college competitive basketball game hosted by Intramural sports on Wednesday, April 2 in the Heritage Campus gymnasium. David Zamarripa and Maximiliano Gonzalez led the way for the Chargers by scoring consistently and playing heavy minutes. The game was four 10-minute quarters with official referees and rules. Del Mar’s Intramural Sports hosted the first 1 on 1 basketball tournament of the spring semester on Wednesday, March 19in the Heritage Campus gym. Games ran for nine minutes or until one player reached 11 points, with shots being tallied as one and two points rather than two and three. In the first round of games Timothy Hernandez outplayed Jesus XXXXXX with his speed and shot-making ability to win 11-4. Teams battle for the championship title at tournament

As Del Mar’s 3v3 basketball tournament continued last month, all teams struggled to have their entire team available to participate. Rather than not allow members who did show up the chance to play, Intramural Sports Director Carla Gamez-Vela instructed students to pick teams and play in games of full-court four on four instead of the half-court three on three from the first round of play. Foam and Color Party

Start spring break with Intramural Sports and Student Leadership and Campus Life as they host the Foam and Color Party this week. The party will be during the Spring Break Bash outside the Harvin Center on the Heritage Campus. Attendees can complete a one-mile fun run/walk while volunteers throw colored dyes at stations along the path. Onsite registration for the fun run begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 6 while the run starts at 11 a.m. Runners may also register online by visiting delmar.edu/playsports. This week marked the beginning of the 3 vs 3 basketball tournament at the Heritage campus gymnasium. Monday was a scrimmage day for the teams to get to know each other, while the competition began on Wednesday Feb 12. Intramural Sports Kicks Off with Basketball Tournament

The first intramural tournament of the spring semester will be 3v3 basketball, beginning on Monday, Feb. 10. Games will be played from 2:30-4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and will run until the championship on Feb. 24. All teams will play on each game day. The tournament will be a double round robin format meaning that every team will play each other twice regardless of how many wins or losses they have. If a team fails to show up on a game day then they will receive losses for the games scheduled on that day. Each basket will count as…

Intramural sports offer many ways to stay active, be social and have fun this semester at several Del Mar campuses. At Heritage Campus, stop by the Kinesiology building room KN202 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15-6:15 p.m. for Zumba classes. In addition, the gymnasium is open for recreational use from 2:30-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 2:30-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Del Mar College fall intramurals officially began in August, but new sports tournaments have only just started. Del Mar College offers a basketball and volleyball course under the instruction of Richard Smith III. The class takes place in the Kinesiology gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. The first eight weeks students focus on basketball, and the second eight weeks on volleyball. The class is an opportunity for students to learn the rules and regulations of basketball and volleyball, allowing them to be able to referee a game or coach a team.
