Rita Hernandez, Del Mar College’s lead counselor, makes it her full-time job to counsel and reassure students who may be enduring significant hardships in their lives. “Many times students will come in with personal issues that really don’t have anything to do with academics, but are definitely effecting their academics,” Hernandez said. Counselors see Harvey victims

Jonathan Garcia jgarcia@foghornnews.com The Del Mar College Counseling Center has come up with several ways to make things easier for students wanting to talk about their experience with Hurricane Harvey. Students usually have to make an appointment for one-on-one counseling but because of Harvey, the center is letting students come in on a walk-in basis. “We’ve set some time aside so students can come in on a walk-in basis so they will not need an appointment,” said Lead Counselor Rita Hernandez.
