Josselyn Obregon @JTO_NEWS Security is a matter of importance to all, especially after so many attacks in recent months that have left dozens dead in different parts of the country. Del Mar College has a comprehensive security plan, ranging from staff and student education to prevention and training necessary to respond to any type of attack. Open house highlights student resources
Oso Creek Campus hosted their second annual open house on Oct. 31, to showcase all the available resources for students. “We want students to know we are also Del Mar College and have resources available for you,” said Sara King, director of student engagement and retention at Oso Creek. She emphasized that the majority of resources for students available on Heritage Campus are also available on Oso Creek Campus. Food pantry sees demand rise
More students seeking assistance from Viking Food Pantry this semester The Viking Food Pantry is on pace to distribute over 20,000 pounds of food this semester to Del Mar students, according to its director. In its first year of operation in 2019, the pantry only served 15 students but that changed once Travis Collingsworth, a social work major at Texas &M University–Kingsville and DMC alumnus, came to the program. “They didn’t have a full-time pantry person,” Collingsworth said. “As soon as I got here, we had a 200 to 300% increase.
