For years, Texas maintained a “low cost, low aid” model for public higher education. Tuition rates were kept well under national average and set by the state legislature. That changed about 20 years ago. After a state budgetary shortfall in 2003, legislators passed House Bill 3015 to deregulate public university tuition. The bill went into effect September 2003 and changed the education code to allow governing boards of public universities to set designated tuition rates. In November, 26-year-old Nick Fuentes went viral for an offensive speech he made on politics. In the video, Fuentes shared his vile far-right beliefs such as; men will always have control over the female body, there will never be a female president, and that men will continue to win by keeping women down. At 74 years old, it’s time for Guy Watts to grow up. The Del Mar College regent was re- elected in 2014 to serve District 4 and is serving his third term. In a Feb. 11 email to the Board of Regents, Watts stated he was going to take a break from his duties after a dispute with fellow board mem- bers over his vision for the new Southside campus.
