Seven years of not being able to hold her children. Seven years of not being able to kiss her husband. Seven years of not knowing if she will ever be able to do any of those things we all take for granted again. Hannah Overton was convicted of capital murder in 2007 and sentenced to life in prison after her foster son Andrew Burd died of sodium poisoning. After many attempts, Overton was granted an appeal on Sept. 17. The Court of Criminal Appeals overturned Overton’s conviction, citing ineffective representation from her trial lawyers. The stories about how police officers are illegally harassing, killing and shooting civilians are overwhelming and common.
