Del Mar College’s Center for Mexican-American Studies has a new coordinator: Assistant Professor and Doctor of Sociology, Isabel Araiza. With a long career as a teacher and public sociologist, Isabel Araiza has been equal parts educator, researcher, and activist. Her office is decorated with posters and memorabilia that echo Hispanic heritage and the social movements that have shaped it, both in the United States and across Latin America. White Library construction coming to a close

Heritage Campus’s William F. White Jr. Library is expected to reopen sometime in spring of next year, with all planned services moved in and operational. According to John Strybos, Vice President and Chief Physical Facilities Officer for Del Mar College, the White library renovations are set to be complete in September of this year. As of Aug. 21, the college is awaiting the final certificate of occupancy from the city, with plans to begin moving in furniture by Sept. 3. Unveiling Corpus Christi Talent: Longnecker’s Witchblade Cover Art Takes Center Stage at Most Wanted Comics Event

On July 17, Most Wanted Comics buzzed with excitement as David Longnecker, a DMC Math Assistant instructor, presented his cover artwork for the Witchblade comic book series. The signing event, which ran from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., drew a diverse crowd eager to witness local talent in the spotlight. Steven Fuentes, owner of Most Wanted Comics, spearheaded a cover art contest aimed at renowned publisher Image Comics. Despite initial resistance due to Longnecker’s lesser-known status, Fuentes persisted, successfully positioning Longnecker as the first Corpus Christi artist featured on a Witchblade cover, a prestigious achievement within the comic book community.…

Alcorta’s Mexican folk-dance company echoes of tradition at DMC Auditorium

Alcorta’s Compania De Danza Folklorica brought the vibrant traditions of Mexico to life at DMC’s Richardson Auditorium on May 03. With the auditorium nearly packed, audiences were treated to a mesmerizing display of classic folklorico dances. From the colorful costumes to the energetic footwork, Alcorta’s transported everyone on a cultural journey through Mexico’s rich heritage. It was a night filled with joy, passion, and the celebration of Mexican culture.

DMC Counseling Center partners with Purple Door for Denim Day

On April 24, Del Mar College hosted Denim Day at the Heritage Campus in observance of Sexual Assault History Month. Members of the Del Mar Counseling Center staff, as well as representatives from Purple Door and the American Association of University Women, were present at the event. DMC Vocal Vikings bring home bronze from nationals

Members of the Vocal Vikings, the Del Mar College speech team, brought home two Bronze Sweepstakes honors at the Phi Rho Pi National Speech Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The Vocal Vikings won Bronze Sweepstakes in Debate and Bronze Sweepstakes for Overall Competition in the small school division during the event held March 31 through April 6. The Overall Competition ranking is based on all rankings from all of the preliminary rounds combined with individual events plus debate. DMC triumphs at 2024 TIPA conference

            On April 11-13, DMC students participated in the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention held in San Marcos, Texas where 10 students participated in live contests to show off their journalism skills. DMC Dental Hygiene program continues free services

Del Mar College’s Dental Hygiene program is continuing free dental service from students through May and will start back up during the fall semester. Some of the services included in treatment are blood pressure screenings, X-rays, free cleanings, as well as fluoride treatments and more. All treatments are monitored and approved by trained professionals as well as students.
