Parking permits are required on all vehicles

Students discuss, celebrate Constitution Day on campus

Tera Elwell / Web editor Sept. 17 was National Constitution Day and the Del Mar College Student Government Association celebrated by hosting “Free Speech and Civility” in the Harvin Center, complete with free pizza, soda and a welcoming environment for students, faculty and staff to voice their opinions on chosen subjects. In honor of Constitution Day, all educational institutions receiving federal funding are required to hold an educational program pertaining to the U.S. Constituion. 50 artists, 50 pieces, one great night

As an added bonus to the event, the Art Partners purchased three winning pieces of art to be displayed at Del Mar College campuses. Younger generation urged to get out and vote

Lexy Garcia / Reporter In 2010, just 27 percent of registered voters in Texas cast ballots. Statistics show people younger than 30 are the least likely to vote. Del Mar College Professor James Klein said there are many reasons for this. “Motivating people to vote is difficult,” said Klein, assistant professor of history. Common excuses from students include that they don’t know the issues, and all politicians are crooks. “We live in a participatory democracy; it can only operate if people participate,” Klein said.
