Franken Bike offers a chance to swap

Jennifer Bultron/Staff Writer Celebrating its 7th year, FrankenBike is a bike-swap organization that hosts quarterly meets in Corpus Christi. According to its Web site, the meet is “open to anyone who wants to buy, sell or trade bicycles and bicycle-related gear or parts.” FrankenBike, formerly known as FrankenRally, was started by Chris Gross as a community project for the Austin community. Human trafficking summit to be held at Del Mar College

Raul Alonzo/Staff Writer State Representative Todd Hunter will be heading an all-day summit concerning human trafficking on the Del Mar College campus on March 29th, open to the public. 13th Annual Cesar Chavez March

The 13th Annual Cesar Chavez March, organized by the Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez Committee, is a free participatory event complete with food and entertainment. Sonya Cortez, president of the committee said, Chavez embodies a spirit of selflessness and ambition that serves as an inspiration to those who may not feel that they are capable of contributing to a more perfect world.

House calls for changes in TANF

Paloma Steele/Staff Writer Recently Republican members of the US House of Representatives tried to push through a bill banning the use of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Program cards at certain locations such as liquor stores, topless bars and casinos, according to a CNN editorial, “‘Strip club bill’ a no-brainer.” The bill would force states to develop policies to prevent this from happening. The fair will be hosted by KIII news studio and local Coastal Bend colleges; Del Mar College, Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University Kingsville, Texas A&M College Station and Coastal Bend College. Time Warner Cable running out of time

Heather McFarland/Staff Writer   On December 13, 2011, many in front of their television sets were unable to view programming on KRIS-TV, which carries NBC programs, K47DF, a Fox affiliate, K68DJ, Telemundo, and KRIS-DT2, the South Texas CW. The outage came after Time Warner Cable pulled the programming due to a failed contract renegotiation attempt with Cordillera Communications, the owner of the stations. Cordillera offered Time Warner an extension so that programming would continue to be available while negotiations continued, however Time Warner declined the offer. Crossing guard program still alive

Dina Ruiz / Staff Writer February 1was the set date that the City of Corpus Christi crossing guard program would cease to exist due to cuts made by the city council.  In it’s place the city hoped to input a volunteer program to take the place of the guards. Since the announcement, concerned parents and faculty of CCISD and the city crossing guard program have voiced their disappointment with the intended volunteer program.
