Del Mar College students will get to show off their artwork in the Student Art Association’s 25th annual Juried Art Exhibition. Over 200 pieces were entered into this year’s art show.

The art show required that the pieces were produced in a Del Mar art credited class within the last two years. The classes were located in the Fine Arts Building and included printmaking, design and still life, to name a few. The pieces could not have been previously entered in student art exhibits. The artwork submitted was reviewed, as entry does not guarantee the piece will be in the exhibit.

“The show has lots of excitement and lots of passion,” said Student Art Association member Stormy  Lopez.

Each class will have its own section for judging. The judging includes a first place, second place and members choice award. Judges picked by the Student Art Association do first- and second-place choices and the members choice award is picked by those in the SAA. The prizes total $1,400.

“The show has many different artists and artwork,” said Bridget Trujillo-Martinez, Student Art Association president. “The SAA is made up of different artists with different art backgrounds to give us a better judging spectrum.”

The opening reception, which is free and open to the public, will be from 6-8 p.m. April 4. The art pieces will be displayed in the Fine Arts Building on the second floor. The pieces will remain up until May 2.

“The Student Art Association invites everyone to come out and enjoy the reception,” Trujillo-Martinez said.
