Viking Quest Day Helps students find majors
The Student Success Center and Career Development hosted Viking Quest Day on Aug. 28, a series of seminars and luncheons where new students met with faculty in the Venters Business Building. Lights out at DMC lighthouse
On June 7 the Del Mar Lighthouse was demolished by Camacho Demolition, after having been donated by the late Dusty Durrill in 2007. Dusty Durrill started a foundation in the name of his daughter Devary, who was killed in October 1978 when her Ford Mustang II burst into flames when rear-ended. Durill filed a lawsuit against Ford, won, and started a trust in his daughter’s name with the settlement. Del Mar College’s Center for Mexican-American Studies has a new coordinator: Assistant Professor and Doctor of Sociology, Isabel Araiza. With a long career as a teacher and public sociologist, Isabel Araiza has been equal parts educator, researcher, and activist. Her office is decorated with posters and memorabilia that echo Hispanic heritage and the social movements that have shaped it, both in the United States and across Latin America.
