Many spring breakers at North Beach may find themselves craving a bite to eat. Fortunately, Pier 99, as its motto says, is “Just Right … on the Water.”
Pier 99 Restaurant is located at 2822 N. Shoreline Blvd., between the Lexington Museum on the Bay and the Texas State Aquarium, and has the largest patio on the water in the Coastal Bend. Its specialty is seafood, of course, but there are also steaks and more.
The first thing I noticed when entering is how the live music contributes to the ambience. There was not a wait to be seated, but because it was a cold and rainy day, seating on the patio was limited. I was fortunate enough to be able to sit by the heater, which made my stay more enjoyable. The live music was provided by a local group called Hide After Nine. The crowd enjoyed the music and even sang along at times.
The menu has myriad options to choose from, ranging from $9 to $40. I ordered a shrimp po’ boy. It was a generous portion of popcorn shrimp with a side salad and French fries. I chose water for a drink.
The food was just right on temperature and was really done well. The shrimp was crunchy and delicious. The salad, even though it was a small portion, was just enough to complement the meal. French fries were also done well, seasoned just right for my taste.
I will definitely will go back to enjoy another afternoon at Pier 99. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to have a good meal while enjoying not just the view, but also the local talent.
