Genocide exhibit on display

  Cynthia Hagerman Reporter   Del Mar College is hosting a panel exhibit titled “Prijedor: Lives From the Bosnian Genocide.” The exhibit includes posters as well as a DVD video for viewing, and is located on the third floor of the White Library on East Campus. The Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission hopes to educate citizens about the circumstances that led to the Bosnian genocide. The exhibit relates the story of genocide in the Bosnian city of Prijedor between 1992 and 1995. Birthday banquet funds student scholarships

It was a night filled with the smooth sound of jazz and a feeling of giving back. Patricia Walter, chairwoman of the Communications, Languages and Reading Department at Del Mar College, used her 55th birthday to host a banquet to raise funds for scholarships. One of Walter’s favorite musicians, jazz saxophonist Tom Braxton, performed at the Feb. 5 event at the Center for Economic Development. Braxton was at the Music Department recently giving a clinic for instructor David Irving, and playing with the ensemble group. He was asked to come and perform for Walter’s birthday banquet, playing smooth jazz music he created.…

Voter rights in jeopardy due to gerrymandering

Professor Adrian Clark speaks about threats to minorities Minority voter rights are under threat, especially in Texas’ 27th Congressional District, according to Del Mar College government professor Adrian Clark, Ph.D. Clark, who kicked off Del Mar’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations with a Sept. 17 presentation in the White Library, said one of the leading causes of this is gerrymandering, which is altering the boundaries of an electoral constituency to favor one political party.
