The Del Mar College Art Department will be hosting the new art exhibit titled “Texas Photographic Society 32: The International Competition” for the Fall Semester at the Cain Art Gallery, with the opening reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sep. 20.
The open-juried exhibition features 49 photographs selected by juror Maria Beatriz H. Carrion, Assistant Curator of Photographs. When stating her selection process for the exhibit, Carrion said, “My goal was to highlight as many approaches and subject matter as possible. This year’s winning images embody photography’s ability to capture a moment in time, tell stories, and transport us to new places.” In addition to curating the final show, she also chose the first, second and third place winners plus five honorable mentions for the exhibition.
“A great photographer can not only capture a moment in time, but also tell a story through color, lighting, and composition,” said Kerstin Dale, Del Mar Art Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Photography. “We are looking forward to showcasing the vision of the photographers in this exhibition.”
The exhibition will be open until Friday Nov. 22. In addition, there will be catering and a cash bar at the opening reception.
