DMC students explore options at career fair

Del Mar’s Career Fair brought students together, offering multiple job opportunities in STEM, Hospitality, and Culinary-related fields.

Students and attendees expressed excitement to attend this event in hopes of finding more information on their future careers in fields they might want to pursue after Del Mar.

“This event offers a chance to experience the type of people you will work with, and what the job market is like for your specific major,” said mechanical engineering student Nicholas Garza. “Engineering can be challenging, so it is important that you give yourself enough time to study and get what you need done, DONE.”

“I really believe that you should always be trying your best, as those who do are more likely to stand out when you get to the stage of looking for a job,” said Garza.

The Feb. 23 event on Oso Creek Campus featured various booths hosted by Chemours chemistry and industrial plant, the Texas State Aquarium, Labatt Food Services, WaterStreet Restaurants, MacDaddy’s Family Kitchen, Hillard Center, and Del Mar’s Small Business Internship program, and many more. Booth attendants handed out job applications and information on internships, upcoming events, and resources on networking.

Del Mar students in STEM internships reported they received hands-on experience on what it would be like if they were already working in their choice of field, which can help them seek what they are really looking for.

“I’m in an internship right now at the plant, working on the refrigerator cooling, and I really like it,” industrial and engineering student Aerabella Flores said. “I believe this program allows to show a brief overview of what is expected at the job, as an I&E technician. It’s hands-on but still challenging in its own way.”

“My main goal is to stay humble and learn to love the hardship of the job. I want to gain as much experience wherever I can to further my education,” Flores said.
