New season brings students to meet new people The start of the fall Intramurals season is fast approaching. The first event is Wednesday Night Volleyball beginning on Sept. 12.   For the past 30 years, Nike has worked to cement its slogan, “Just Do It,” into American culture. It represents itslef with the best of the best in sports. Professional athletes such as tennis player Serena Williams and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. can be seen representing Nike in countless campaigns. To celebrate 30 years of business, Nike released an ad campaign with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick with the caption, “Believe in something. Intramurals adds night events

New semester brings additional volleyball, basketball offerings If you’ve been wanting to get active and meet new people but just can’t find time during the day, Del Mar College Intramurals has your answer. This semester they will be offering both volleyball and basketball at night for students who have work or are in class during the usual afternoon competitions. 3-on-3 basketball gets a little intense

Team fights back from early loss to claim championship In a double elimination three-on-three basketball intramural tournament, five teams did their best to dribble their way to victory. After losing an early game, team Life worked their way through the bracket to make a comeback. Game by game, Life made it back to the main draw and faced the undefeated team Most Hated. After an incredibly close game team, Life seized the championship 18-17. “Our team’s biggest strength is passing the ball well, communicating and making sure you can get open on the court,” said Life team member Trevon Favors.…

DMC intramurals kick up the heat

Del Mar students took to the court and field to compete in the free-throw, hotshots and soccer intramural tournaments. Out of the four teams competing in the soccer tournament, two rose above the rest. In the final showdown the Grass Kickers went head to head with Manchester Hair United. After an intense game the teams were tied at 1-1. “We had to go into a sudden death overtime, and the first team to score won,” Intramurals Director Kristy Urbick said. Collegiate tackles the competition

After four games in three days, the flag football tournament saw two teams face off in the championship, for which there could be one winner. With team A Zeke Outlook taking on The Walking Dez for the title, competition was fierce on the field by the East Campus gym. Teams of five students each took turns moving the ball downfield in the spring weather, with temperatures in the mid-80s from March 27-29. A Zeke Outlook, which consisted of Michael Suarez, Jesús Ibarra, Tomas Gonzalez, Max Guerrero, Benito Torres and John Davila, won the game to be crowned this semester’s champions.…

DMC encourages steps towards fitness

Del Mar College has started its 100 Mile and Steps Fitness challenges to encourage students and faculty to get out and take part in a healthy and active lifestyle. The challenges require participants to accomplish fitness milestones that they will then record into an official log sheet. Intramurals adds new events

Indoor baseball, Saturday basketball offered this semester While the freezing temperatures may have delayed the start of the semester, Del Mar’s intramural sports will be heating up this spring with the addition of several new offerings. The department will be introducing new sports to be played such as indoor baseball, a free throw contest, and, for the first time, a 4-on-4 basketball tournament on a Saturday. Kicking off the holiday season

Del Mar College Intramurals came to an end Nov. 30 with their last event of the season, 5-on-5 indoor soccer. The players could pick their teams but many chose to group up with the same teammates from previous intramurals events. This event lasted three days and had about four rounds each day. On the tournament’s last day, the first two games were eight minutes each with a minute and a half break. The Home team whipped up 11 points in the first set while the visitors put up 2. There were about four teams that played against one another all week to battle it out before the big game.
