Those who couldn’t wait for the official intramural events, which begin with volleyball the week of Sept. 12, played spikeball and cornhole. Students go head to head in flag football

Despite the approaching doom of finals, Del Mar students found some time on a sunny April afternoon to blow o some steam in a scrimmage of 4v4 flag football. More students soon joined the game after it started, adding to the excitement. There was not a score to keep that afternoon, but the competition was alive nonetheless with triumphant touchdown dances and cries of dismay. Finance major throws first pitch

Laura McGrady was recognized as Del Mar College’s Accounting Student of the Year by throwing the first pitch at the Hooks game on April 22. “I was very nervous but it ended up being really fun and I want to do it again,” said McGrady, who will be graduating with the spring class of 2016 with a major in accounting. “It feels pretty special. I’ve worked pretty hard for it so I’m glad that it paid off,” McGrady said. McGrady and her fellow accounting students spent several months this year helping people in the community with their taxes for free.…

Intramurals hosted a two-day basketball tournament that started April 13. The tournament pitted six teams against one another for the championship spot and bragging rights. More than half a century has passed since Del Mar College last had an intercollegiate athletics program in 1965, but there are still some in this city who would like to keep the competitiveness alive. Omar Salinas II, a locally raised sports enthusiast, aims to do that by building a baseball team with players from around Corpus Christi. The 5K Fun Run that took place in front of the gym on Tuesday had few participants but high spirits. Intramural workers cheered racers on as they ran. The race involved going around the out- side edge of the campus twice in order to reach the distance of 5 kilometers.
