Time Warner Controversy

Heather McFarland / Staff Writer On December 13, 2011 many in front of their television sets were unable to view programming on KRISTV which carries NBC programs, K47DF a Fox affiliate, K68DJ which broadcasts Telemundo, and KRIS-DT2 also known as CW South Texas. Time Warner Cable pulled the programming due to its inability to renegotiate a carriage contract with Cordillera Communications, the station that owns these four channels. Cordillera offered Time Warner an extension so that programming would continue to be available while negotiations continued, however Time Warner declined the offer. The channels were dropped after Time Warner Cable contended…

Easy Nutritious meal packed with flavor (not calories)!

Paloma Steele / Staff Writer On the last volume of the Foghorn paper, someone expressed wanting recipes.  I loved that idea and since as a mommy and a student sometimes time and budgets are tight, you can look to this blog for simple, delicious and healthy recipes.  Today’s menu:  Greek Chicken Pitas (6 servings).  The grilled chicken, olives and feta cheese marry well in this fast meal! Here is the shopping list: 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts halves 1 cup of Greek salad dressing (you will us 3/4 cup first so measure that out) 8 ounces of romaine lettuce, tear it…

The effects of SOPA and PIPA

By Sam Parris -Chief Photographer/Copy Editor It’s the first week of the semester, you’ve got your textbooks, you’ve been to day one and you’ve just realized you don’t have a clue who this Quantum guy is or why he needs so many mechanics. Your classmates are just as clueless, and if the color of the professor’s beard is anything to go by, he’ll probably only be able to recount an endless tale of what school was like back in the ‘50s. Thanks for letting it go Rick Perry

In the year 2000, Texas was blessed with a brand new governor, James Richard “Rick” Perry; at least Texas was blessed in his eyes. The real view is Texas got a cancer that has slowly been trying to kill it. Perry first became governor after George W. Bush was elected to be President of the United States, two years before a real election was to be held. In this short amount of time Perry managed to set the record for most vetoes during a single legislative session with a staggering 82 vetoes. That was just the beginning of the…

In memory of Editor Zachary Bibbs

Robert Muilenburg /Advisor   On Jan. 9, 2012, Del Mar College alumnus and Hall of Fame member Zachary Bibbs died.   Zach first attended Del Mar and worked for the student newspaper, The Foghorn, in 1991. I was lucky enough to get the chance to know him when he made his return in 2008, later becoming The Foghorn’s editor in chief.   Many people don’t understand the time and energy students put in to working on student publications. Zach was fully involved and engaged, putting in late hours while having to go through hours of kidney dialysis every week. Despite…
