Intramurals offers weekly events

Intramurals has more in store for the semester

The fall semester may have just begun, but the intramurals program is in full swing. They’ve already started holding Tennis Tuesday Light Nights each Tuesday, Lunch Time Water Fitness every Tuesday and Thursday, Zumba Fitness every Monday, and Backyard Games every Wednesday as well. All of these events are open for everybody to join.

These aren’t all of the events the program has planned, though. Many more events are slated to begin as the semester unfolds. Below are just some of the events scheduled for the remainder of the fall semester.

ZUMBA FITNESS (MONDAYS)

The program has a variety of weekly events set for everyone to join whenever sessions are happening. Zumba aerobics classes take place 5:15-6:15 p.m. every Monday in the Kinesiology Building.

Zumba consists of simple aerobic exercises that are influenced by Latin rhythm. Don’t feel like you need to know how to dance when you’re coming in, though; no experience is necessary when entering these sessions.

LUNCH TIME WATER FITNESS (TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS)

Another one of the weekly events that everybody can join, Lunch Time Water Fitness sessions take place from 12:30-1:15 p.m. in the Aquatics Center every Tuesday and Thursday. These are water aerobics classes intended to let people cool down before they get a bite to eat.

“The water is around the chest level,” said intramurals director Carla Gamez-Vela. “Your hair might get splashed, but for the most part it will be fine if you put it up.”

TENNIS TUESDAY LIGHT NIGHTS (TUESDAYS)

Again, a weekly event that everybody is welcome to join. Tennis Tuesday Light Nights take place from 7-9 p.m. every Tuesday night at the tennis courts near the Gymnasium.

Student assistant Yetta Williams runs these sessions, wherein one will be taught the basics of tennis and will apply those basics in games. No experience is required to join these sessions, so feel free to join even if you’ve never played tennis before.

SINGLES AND DOUBLES PICKLEBALL (STARTS OCT. 12)

This Del Mar tradition recently took the world by storm, but it hasn’t left the campus this semester. Pickleball games in both singles and doubles configurations will run from 2-4 p.m. from Oct. 12 onwards in the gym.

Registration for this event ends on Oct. 6. To register, scan the QR code provided and select “Pickleball.”

1V1 BASKETBALL (STARTS OCT. 16)

While the 3v3 basketball league may have begun already, there are more basketball opportunities on the way. A one-on-one elimination league will be from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 16 in the gym.

Registration for this event ends on Oct. 11. To register, scan the QR code provided and select “1 on 1 Basketball.”
