Water aerobics at lunchtime

Students can squeeze in some water aerobics every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch time, thanks the intramurals program’s new classes.

“Lunch Time Water Fitness is a 45-minute water aerobics class from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m.,” intramurals director Carla Gamez-Vela said.

Held at the Aquatics Center on Heritage Campus, Lunch Time Water Fitness is one of the many free-for-all sessions the intramurals program has begun to offer.

“These are for those who want to squeeze in a quick and fun workout during their lunch hour,” Vela said.

The exercises are low-intensity, and participants will not be expected to swim or delve into deep water for these sessions.

“Water aerobics takes place in the shallow end of the pool,” Vela said.

Participants of the inaugural Sept. 12 session included novices who had never joined such sessions before.

“This is my first time doing a water aerobics class,” student Aubbrie Riegel said. “This was actually fun.”

Another participant who enjoyed their time was student assistant Yetta Williams.

“It’s fun,” Williams said. “I’m doing something with my body differently than what I would normally do.”
