The annual Tuba Christmas Concert promises to be an afternoon of breathtaking holiday music performed by musicians in the Corpus Christi area. The concert will be conducted by Dan T. Sipes of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as well as Jeff Stone of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The concert will take place at noon Dec. 18 in the lobby of Plains Capital Bank, 500 N. CASA seeks volunteers to become voice for children in need

CASA of the Coastal Bend is an organization that aids in the care and advocacy of children in the foster care system. Their mission is “to speak up for and find permanent homes for foster children in crisis throughout Nueces, San Patricio and Aransas counties,” and they have succeeded in helping thousands of abused and neglected children in this area. Because the organization relies mainly on volunteers, help is always being sought. One of the most important aspects of CASA is its involvement with the local judges and police departments. Libraries change hours for holiday

The libraries at DMC are a wonderful resource for students, conveniently open 83.5 hours per week. This Thanksgiving, hours will be modified to allow the libraries to be closed a little bit more over the holiday weekend, according to Sally Bickley, interim director of learning resources. Adjunct professor fights for human rights

With illegal immigration becoming more and more of an issue in this country, a question begs to be answered: What happens to those who are already here? Are they to be treated like criminals and kept in facilities against their wills? Olivia Lopez says no. Lopez, an adjunct social work professor at Del Mar College, was able to see firsthand what really goes on in these so-called “residential centers.” Lopez received an offer to provide social services and care to residents of the Karnes County Residential Center in Karnes City, about an hour south of San Antonio. Architecture program plans design challenge

The Architecture and Drafting Technologies Program faculty at Del Mar will be kicking off the 2015 Student Design Charrette competition with their annual Halloween lecture at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in Wolfe Recital Hall located on the East Campus. The lecture will cover the common styles of architecture in the United States, dating all the way back to colonization and moving into the modern era.
