After a very successful summer, the Ride-In Theater is back next month, screening a movie of pure delight, “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”

The story is of an urbane fox, voiced by George Clooney, who cannot resist returning to his farm-raiding ways and must help his community survive the farmers’ retaliation.

The first stop-motion film made by the great Wes Anderson, “Fantastic Mr. Fox” is something to be experienced. Children will love its adorable characters while adults will marvel in its ability to connect with them. After all, each of us was a kid at one time or another and because of that there has never been a better excuse to pretend again.

The Ride-In Theater will screen “Fantastic Mr. Fox” once the sun goes down on Sept. 20 at the Watergardens.

The Ride-In Theater is an organization built nearly three years ago. It was formed by six friends who wanted to watch movies outside and enjoy one another’s company. It quickly grew into a monthly event that brings out hundreds of locals.

This past summer, the Ride-In screened movies such as “The Burbs,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Adventures in Babysitting” and “Beetlejuice.” These films attracted almost 1,500 people combined.

To keep the Ride-In Theater alive, the founders formed a committee to take over and give the event a bit of a makeover.

While adding new food trucks, more sponsors and vendors, the committee is pulling out all the stops for these monthly events. In September, Callie’s Cajun, BooKoos Hot Dogs and Curly’s food trucks will all be on site, offering up a delicious assortment of treats. Outside alcohol is prohibited, but adult beverages will be sold at the event.

Also, the Ride-In has a new “Ride-In Lounge” for its guests.fmf2 For $10 you are treated to a premium section of the Watergardens so you can take in the film in style and from the perfect vantage point AND cocktail lounge service so you never even have to leave your seat to get a drink.

For $20 you get the impressive section of the audience space, cocktail waitress service and a super-comfortable lounge chair so you can sprawl out and enjoy the film.

If you are interested in reserving your Ride-In Lounge Seating, please message the Facebook page with the number of guests you would like to have on the list and which level of lounge amenities you prefer.

All proceeds from the lounge go to the Corpus Christi Ride-In Theater and help ensure that the group can continue to bring quality, and most importantly, free entertainment to the Coastal Bend.
