Students and staff took a dose of healthy competition to the Del Mar College gym basketball court in an epic inaugural “March Madness Showdown.”
On March 27 the madness began with the free-throw contest. With sign-up open to players and fans, the competition was fierce. As the competition narrowed down to the top scorers, Andres Garcia walked away the free-throw contest champion.
“It took hard work and consistency,” Garcia said of his win.
Finally, it was time for the teams to take the court, the Helm Holders versus Valdar’s Warriors. After four quarters of friendly competition, the Helm Holders took the victory over Valdar’s Warriors.
Helping his team to victory Gabriel Franco was named MVP of the inaugural showdown. “It took great teamwork,” said Franco humbly.

Security, once again, was the topic of discussion during the November Board of Regents meeting. Del Mar College President Mark Escamilla emphasized the need for an on-campus police force. Kelly White, director of environmental health, safety and risk management, shared the Clery Act statistics during the Nov. 10 meeting. “The crime numbers are very, very good,” White said. “The report includes everything that happens on campus to the sidewalk across the street. So, if a police officer pulls over a vehicle and they pull onto Del Mar College property then we have to report it in our report.” Escamilla hopes…
Several Del Mar staff members and other volunteers spent the morning Nov. 17 preparing eggs, sausage, biscuits and other breakfast items for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Yoga is something that snuck up on me in a sense. It’s something I’ve always been curious about but never pursued. Last semester a friend and fellow journalist at Del Mar College told me how much she had enjoyed her yoga class the school offers, I took the opportunity to finally experience it for myself .This blog will follow my journey in yoga through the next few months.
