Volunteers needed

The Gulf Coast Humane Society will be having their annual Style Show fundraiser at the Soloman Ortiz Center! This is a big fundraiser! They need folks to volunteer to be dogs handlers at the show, help with transport to and from as well as folks to come help groom the day before! Also, this coming week, the YWCA is hosting their “Week Without Violence”.

Nursing program still accredited

Kelsey Heatley/Web Editor   The Del Mar Nurse Education Program still has full accreditation with the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission and Texas Board of Nursing  (TBON), but has been placed under a “warning” status. According to Mark Escamilla the (TBON) spent a considerable time with the students and faculty in the nursing program. “That slip in pass rates for first-time examinees added a “warning” to the college’s Full Approval status with the TBON,” Escamilla said. Clery Act

Cody Bahn/Managing Editor   Del Mar College Security reported zero burglaries and robberies for the year 2009 to the U.S. Department of Education (DoE), but Security Office Incident Reports documented over 60 thefts. The reason for the discrepancy is that the thefts did not meet the criteria necessary to be reported to the DoE as required by the Jeanne Clery Act. When the clock struck 10, staff member Miranda Fuqua– in costume as Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye from the Anime series “Full Metal Alchemist”– welcomed the Realms Con-goers to the 2011 convention with a wave of her white glove. Thiry nine years of music at Del Mar

All are of well-known jazz musicians and Irving is seen playing alongside those artists in most of the photos. Artists include Lou Marini, better known as Blue Lou, of the Blues Brothers, Dizzy Gillespie, commonly referred to as one of the greatest trumpeters of the 20th century, and Lee Konitz, an American jazz composer and saxophonist. Dr. Abarca named to new Texas Council

Resolving student complaints

Andrew Wilson/Reporter If a student has a complaint or a grievance against a faculty member or concerning an issue, the student may file a grievance with the Dean of Student Engagement and Retention Office, located on the second floor of the Harvin Student Center. Sandra Valerio, acting dean of Student Engagement and Retention, said students who want to file a complaint should think about what they want resolved. A Sea of Pink

Haley Williams/Chief photographer The American Cancer Society (ACS) is hosting a fundraiser, “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer”, on Saturday October 22, 2011 at the Corpus Christi Water Gardens. Making Strides is a 5K walk/run, and all funds raised will help support local Breast Cancer research and services. It is not a race, but a celebration of survivorship, according to the ACS website. The walk begins at 9 A.M., with registration for individuals and teams starting at 7 A.M. There will also be a Zumba instruction before the event to help the walkers get warmed-up.
