Foghorn students expand journalism knowledge and bring home wins at annual TIPA conference

Del Mar students expanded their journalism knowledge and celebrated their previous work, bringing home 30 awards, including five best of show entries, at their annual student journalism conference. On March 18-21, 12 DMC students and three advisors attended the annual conference for the oldest collegiate press association in the nation held in Denton. The Texas Intercollegiate Press Association conference took place at the Embassy Suites Denton Convention Center. Forty-four schools from throughout Texas brought 343 attendees between them to participate in live contests, workshops, seminars and a career fair and trade show. Vocal Vikings’ team captain continues winning streak

Del Mar College Vocal Vikings continue to find success at multiple speech and debate tournaments, led by team captain Elyda Vasquez, who has brought back trophies from every tournament she has attended since the fall semester.   In the Fall, Vasquez won second place in Poetry and Prose at the TIFA competition and first place at Nations in Programmed Oral Interpretation (POI) at the Off-Broadway Speech Tournament in New York. Holloway finds niche in local theater

A calling can come from anywhere. The moment where someone stumbles into something that resonates can be found in a variety of locations, and Del Mar drama student Hunter Holloway found his calling from seeing people on stage for a musical. “I saw my first ever community theater show, which was ‘Footloose’ at Aurora Arts Theatre,” Holloway said. From the moment he saw it, he was sold on theater. “I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life,” Holloway said.
