Genocide exhibit on display

  Cynthia Hagerman Reporter   Del Mar College is hosting a panel exhibit titled “Prijedor: Lives From the Bosnian Genocide.” The exhibit includes posters as well as a DVD video for viewing, and is located on the third floor of the White Library on East Campus. The Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission hopes to educate citizens about the circumstances that led to the Bosnian genocide. The exhibit relates the story of genocide in the Bosnian city of Prijedor between 1992 and 1995. SGA students represent DMC at Capitol

Some 35 students, along with a handful of Regents and administration members, set out for Austin at 4:30 a.m. on a cold, misty Feb. 3 to represent the school in delivering multiple proposals. After being recognized from the Senate floor by Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, students then had the honor of a meet-and-greet with state Reps. Art show to open Feb. 20

  Meagan Falcon Web editor Del Mar College’s annual National Drawing and Small Sculpture Show will have an opening reception on Feb. 20. This year’s show, which attracts contemporary American artists working in the drawing and sculpture mediums from across the country, was juried by Oklahoma State University professor and artist Chris Ramsay, who gave a slide lecture on Feb. 5 in Richardson Performance Hall on East Campus. FEMA dome construction underway

  Samantha Douty Reporter A few years in the making, construction of FEMA domes has begun in several locations in the Corpus Christi area. There will be FEMA domes placed on the Del Mar College West Campus as well as in Calallen ISD, Tuloso-Midway ISD and Kingsville ISD. According to Lee Sloan, Del Mar’s chief financial officer and vice president of operations, the project is budgeted for $5 million. FEMA is only responsible for $1.8 million but is considering awarding an additional $800,000 because costs have increased dramatically since the dome was proposed.
