Del Mar College’s MWF Jazz Band took the stage to end the spring semester on a smooth note.  With solo moments within ensemble pieces, the band gave a performance that jazzed up the night and for some musicians it was there final bow and last concert before graduation. “It felt so good. DMC hosts high school welding competition

High school students traveled from across Texas to compete in several welding events at the Skills-USA State competition April 1 at Windward Campus.  According to Assistant Welding Professor Jose Cortez, the event is a great opportunity for Del Mar to spark interest in high school students by allowing them to see and use the college’s facilities. “Hosting the state event lets schools all over Texas know what Del Mar is doing,” Cortez said. “If they get exposed to this kind of welding and we talk to them we sometimes do get students who register at our program.”

Abbott visits aquarium on primary election night

Gov. Greg Abbott chose to spend primary election night at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, ending the night with a victory. Accompanied by other Republicans up for re-election including Rep. Todd Hunter, Abbott was celebrated by many supporters and constitutes at the March 1 event. With his Republican Party primary win, Abbott will now face Democrat candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke for governor in the upcoming November election. A woman of many degrees

Sarah Contreras has been a student her whole life, but teaching breathes more life into her. Contreras, who triple majored in speech, education and theater at Corpus Christi State University, now known as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, also holds a master’s in communications studies with an emphasis in communication education from Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University in San Marcos. Contreras, a mother of two boys, has been a speech professor at Del Mar College for the past 27 years. Lift the weight of school off

After not being able to break a sweat at the recreation center in nearly two years because of COVID-19 restrictions, students finally can use the facility again. Born in Corpus Christi on Aug. 26, 1999, Christopher Garcia always loved the idea of working with a team to accomplish a goal. Governor candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke made his way to Corpus Christi on Nov. 18 as part of his grassroots campaign for a meet-and-greet with supporters.  While he only spoke for a brief time, Beto shook hands with those who came out to support him at the La Playa restaurant downtown.
